Google Sells Domains Now

Heads up, GoDaddy and Web.com! Your days of anti-customer service and price gouging may be numbered.

This week, Google finally unveiled its own domain registry service to the public. For $12 a year, you can register a domain and get a few features that few competitors can match (excepting you, beloved Dynadot). The service has tested well and, at less than a third of the cost of veterans like Network Solutions, it’s no wonder the Web.com properties (Register.com, Network Solutions, etc) are missing their numbers financially.

That twelve bucks includes features that the others upsell too. Things like whois privacy, domain forwarding and email forwarding. The tie to Google’s DNS and a future integration with Google Apps just sweetens the deal.

We’ll stick with Dynadot, Namecheap and Hover for now but this upstart Google company is worth watching out for.
